This guy is much calmer than I was on 11/3

The main reason I started this blog is because I am heartsick at continually being told that Bush won the “Christian” vote, or that much of the latest political divisivness is because of a “moral values” POV.

W. won something but it wasn’t Christian. Christianity teaches forgiveness, “love your neighbor” and looking out for the other guy (not #1). It doesn’t ever say “hit them before they hit us again.” It doesn’t ever say “hit them because they hit us.” Jesus said “turn the other cheek,” “take care of the orphans and widows”. The great reversal theme that Biblical scholars speak of doesn’t mean what they’ve twisted it to mean.

If you want to use the Old Testament policy of “eye for an eye” to justify the Iraqi war, you’ve got some work to do. “Eye for an eye” was set as a limit not a minimum.

What exactly do these “evangelicals” want? Their own brand of selfish “I’ve got mine, now get out of the way I want yours, Jesus says I can have it” Christianity? Will they want control of all the churches, too as well as the schools and the courts? Will the rest of us dare to stand together and speak as a confessing church ? How much worse does it have to get before we do?

This guys says it better than I can tonight even after six days to calm down: tonypierce.com busblog
