SL has Leukemia

It has been a weird three months (3 months!!!) since I last posted. More about the outcome of that post later.

We found out yesterday that DS2’s best friend since birth, has leukemia. He is entering the hospital today to have a spinal tap, a shunt put into his chest and chemo therapy started. His family has been told he will be there at least a week, but to plan for two and not to make any plans after that. I don’t know what that last part means.

He’s only 11 years old.

Oh God,
This broken world has been so unfair to S and his family! You don’t interfere when bad things happen to good people, but you promise that all things will work for good for those who love you. God, I’m too stupid to see how this can possibly work for good. Make it work for good and make it clear how it is working for good, so that we can see your hand in this! You promise to be with us in times of trouble, so be here! Support S and his parents and his brother and sister. Support his friends and guide the doctors who are treating him. You promised to do all these things, so now we beg you to keep your promise.
Amen.
