waiting for light
It’s nearing mid-winter at 45 degrees and that means that it’s more night than day here. The sun doesn’t rise until almost 8am and by 4:30pm it’s dusky and sunset. Not as dramatic as at 35 degrees north, I suppose but still pretty dark.
It’s good to wait for the light to return. To wait for the joy to return. It’s good to have specific times to talk about the hope that those things will return and to rest assuredly that they will.
I feel sorry for those who aren’t as affected by seasonal light changes. I don’t think you can appreciate the need quite the same way. The need for hope. The need for joy. The need for light not of your own making.
