The dark week that wasn’t
In the world of theater Mondays are “dark,” which means that the lights are off because there’s no show.
Somehow I’ve gotten into my being the idea that the week between Christmas and New Years is a holy, sacred, “dark” time. Not dark in an evil sense, but dark in an incubative sense. It’s a time to organize closets or cupboards; a time to sit on the couch and read; a time to assess the past year and make plans for the coming year; a quietly spiritual time, somehow.
As I look back on my life, I realize that except for a few years when I was working for St. Paul Companies or for Best Buy, I was able to take this week off and do this sort of hibernation.
It’s no wonder that I’m having a hard time with coming in to work this week. Not that there’s not a lot (a LOT) to do, but I feel a little resentful that I have to do it just now.
Next week will be more of the same running full out in order to have things organized to take two weeks at Southern Seminary for the Deaconess event.
