This is why they need me
DS1 didn’t pass his permit test today. He tries so hard to act like it didn’t matter, but we saw his buddy from baseball there…passing and getting his permit. He’s on the verge of tears but can hold them back. A combination of testosterone and training from XH.
While I was waiting for the spaghetti sauce to thaw, I sat with him on the couch and just held him. The dog came over…always alert for times when one of the boys might be getting more attention that she is…and I explained to her…for DS1’s benefit of course, that I needed to hold him because he was sad and sometimes, even though it doesn’t change a thing, it helps.
He let me be with him for about 6 minutes before needing to get up. Pretty good for a 15 yr old, I’d say. When I asked him if he felt better he still had a hard time answering.
I hugged him and told him that I love him and just worry that he works so hard to wall up what he’s feeling that it will make him sick in the future. He went down to watch the Simpsons.
Being the mom of teenage sons is like that I guess.
