“mixed feelings”
That was the first thing out of his mouth when I gave him my notice.
I am NOT lying.
I told GA later, that I was trying to take the advise of my friend Marty Luther and cast that remark in the best possilble light. That maybe what PP really meant was “I am so upset about you leaving us but I am happy for you that you have this exciting new call.”
yeah.
She didn’t think it sounded better said out loud either.
I suggested to PP that JW might be a good choice to lead the bell choir(s). I don’t know if 2 choirs are possible with her schedule, but she has the skill and the passion and I’ve seen the training and experience come through. His head was spinning. Don’t know if he will remember I said it, but I will talk with her next week.
He was not excited about sending my letter out to the congregation and suggested that I send my own letter to “those you usually interact with.” Whatever.
As I left his office I noticed that the newsletter hadn’t been mailed and went back and suggested that perhaps GA’s and my letters could be inserted into the newsletter, thereby letting everyone know and saving postage.
Apparently I’m a genius. Or at least it wasn’t too difficult an idea, because that’s what they are doing. Gee, imagine communicating to the entire congregation that two staff members have resigned in the same week instead of just announcing it on Sunday to those that show up for worship.
Another funny thing he said was that after he returned from his Florida trip, during which I (and others) had stepped up to do some hospital visits to some suddent sick and life-threatened people, PD and he had a conversation. “PD leaned forward in his seat (which means he’s really intense) and told me ‘I think Becky is really called to be a deaconess.’”
uh, thanks?
All in all a very strange conversation. But it’s over and now the world can know. I can start to meet with people from SAPLC and such and get going on things.
I have mixed feelings too. I am going to miss some of these people a lot. I am sad not to get to see some of these projects through to full flower.
On the other hand,
well, I’ve written plenty here in the past about the other hand.
