S-A-TUR-DAY Night! Blech!

I watched the boys climb in the car with their dad and head off for the “Family Reunion.” They are staying overnight there, so this probably marks the first of many Saturday nights I’ll spend alone.

I was wondering yesterday about how the whole rest of that side of the family views this divorce thing. No one has ever called to talk. The one time I bumped into X’s cousin at the hairdresser’s she talked like there was nothing going on. Life as usual. That was a year or so ago, so maybe they didn’t even know.

It just seems sad to me that in the 25 years over which we dated and were married, never did the women of his family include me in any of their “girl things.” I don’t really know why that is, either. It’s not that they were openly hostile at other times, or that they invited me and I declined. I watch Aunt J with her daughter-in-law and it’s a much different kind of relationship than my XMIL has with her children’s spouses.

I don’t know. It’s just weird and a little sad to think that somehow I was never good enough to get invited to go shopping or have coffee or take the little weekend trips they take.

On a more current note, I have a Saturday night with no children…and no prospects. Not that I could really go out howling, I do have work in the morning. But it’s just an example of how much further I have to go to put my life back together. That all my friends are either married or gay and have their own social lives isn’t a bad thing…it just means I need to find some single friends to hang out with at times like this. So I have something to look forward to instead of just going to bed early after having spent the day napping on the couch.

Uggh. I really shouldn’t make plans or evaluate the day until I’ve had some coffee.
