I’m really not trying to do this….

A few weeks ago, when I was day-dreaming about my last week at GC, I somehow thought it would be an easy walk into a nice week of vacation.

Instead I find myself getting more and more tired because the days are just packed! Too packed, even, to sit and write a few lines about what’s going on! The good news is that a lot of the activity is not really GC related, so the stress level is…different.

Of course, let’s be fair and admit right up front that most of it is SELF INFLICTED! Hence the title of this post. I guess I haven’t unpacked as much of my “baggage” around this issue as I thought.

For instance, my “goal” was to have choir music picked and ready by Friday. Yeah. I don’t think it’s going to happen. The excuse I’m using is that I’ve had very little actual time in the music library at SAPLC, and figuring out the gaps between 1) what I think we ought to sing and 2) what they have in the library is time consuming. But I’ve had some very nice conversations with folks that I’ll be working with for the year. The organist seems like a pretty direct and down-to-earth woman. She’s one of those that has seen it all and doesn’t want to get into all the drama. I did ask her some good questions that I hope led her to believe I understand what she needs (”So when do you practice at the church?” led to a long discussion of a practice of one parishioner to teach voice lessons in the sanctuary when AB is scheduled to be using the organ.)

Another self-added stressor is that after a really good conversation with SH on Sunday evening (he was the only one that showed up for Vespers) I decided to fling a little ad on the craigslist personals site. (I know! don’t talk to me about craigslist!)

Anyway, it’s sort of like I chummed the water. Big flurry of emails. Some chats. Some nice guys. Some creepy guys (like the one who wanted to know if he could fool around with me because his marriage was unsatisfying. Um, NO! Um, GET A THERAPIST!) But there’s a little part of me that feels like I should reply to most of the ads..out of politeness. WTF! It’s craigslist for goodness sake! They don’t even know who you are! Be rude and not reply if it’s stress you out! BTW, you really don’t have all that much time to be going out meeting people if you want to know the truth…especially this week!

So that’s what I’m doing.

Don’t you like how I yell at myself and have arguments.

The boys and I went to the Twins game yesterday. Free tix from Saturn. They got autographs from Burt Blyleven and Jack Morris. It was ‘cheap seats’ seating but still a lot of fun. They had Twingo and I learned a lot about how to keep score that I didn’t know. All those abreviations. Of course I cracked DS1 up when I asked about 3-U designation. I couldn’t figure out how there could possibly be a space for an “unassisted triple play?” He almost died laughing. I think he’s still laughing about it this morning. (for those of you that don’t know what it really means….it’s an unassisted out by the 1st baseman…like he fields a grounder and runs over and steps on the base.)

So I learned ;)
