endings, beginnings and things that continue

Today is my last official day at GC!! Besides being relieved, I find myself with a bag full of different emotions: sad, disappointed, irritated (that I have to go up there again– this one is puzzling), anticipation.

The new things, CPE and new job, won’t start for another week. I feel anxiety at the unknown, anticipation, eager to get started, jittery; all the usual ‘new job’ feelings.

Yesterday I got the response, through my lawyer, to the marriage termination agreement. We are very close, but I have to meet with her today or it will have to wait until after Sept 1! If I meet today, it could be done and final by Sept 1. As I reviewed the letter and proposed changes, I found myself feeling heavy with anger, frustration, confusion, anxiety. This was in direct contrast to the ‘lightness’ I’ve been feeling the last couple of weeks.

Today, I extended the evite to Sunday Vespers. The experiment has been a success. Even if the people change because of internships, or busy-ness, it is a good pattern. Good for my spirit, good for my discipline, good for my housekeeping ;)
Although I am the one asking for this divorce, I find that Francis’ observation in “Under the Tuscan Sun” is accurate. “The amazing thing about divorce is that it doesn’t kill you like a gunshot to the heart or being hit by a bus. It should. But it doesn’t. You keep living.”

So, those things continue. And so do I.
