Good space

Friday was a hard day for the on-call chaplain. Especially Friday night, when I attended a family whose 23 daughter was bleeding out from a rare fungal infection. They were a remarkable family who never let their dysfunction (that all families have) drive their treatment of each other, especially their treatment of the patient’s husband [...]

deal breakers

You know who you are:
You asked me yesterday about Deal Breakers. I was a bit taken by surprise and didn’t give you a very clear answer. That bothers me (that I wasn’t clear and prepared), so here’s my list, as I understand it today.

Right-wing conservatives
Religious zealots of any flavor who think theirs is the only [...]

craptacular

It took 2 days, but X has finally moved (almost all) of his stuff out of the house. Almost 2 years from when I made him leave. 22 months after he moved from M&N’s couch to his parents’ basement and at least 10 monthe from when he moved into an apartment.
It took him most of [...]

About a week to go

I started this blog in November of 2004 because I was so upset W getting re-elected. It seemed to me then, and it seems to me now, that we are on the verge of something horrible happening. Something that would tear apart our lives as we know it.
It’s not coming from the “terrorists.” It’s coming [...]

Stubborn Norwegian Wins

My mom went home from the hospital today. She and my sister actually stopped at Wally World to get her prescriptions filled and she walked from the car to the pharmacy and back.
Hopefully, this means that her perseverance (not to mention her irrational desire to go to Vegas in three weeks) will prevail, and her [...]

Indy Pindy

Thursday is date night at Chez Journey. Mostly because the boys are with their father and I don’t usually have a meeting or other rehearsal. Not that it’s been “date night” that long…but who’s counting anyway?
Tonight’s adventure was set at the Longfellow Grill. A restaurant I had never eaten at, but it was the [...]

Mazatlan at Christmas

Apparently, my mom would be a pretty funny drunk, if she drank more. See what you think.
I arrived at the hospital around 6:45 on Monday morning. She and my sister had been there since 5:30 am, as required for a 7:30 surgery. She was changed and in the bed, but no one had come to [...]

back on track

Out of ICU. Back to her goofy self. Lots of fodder for future posts. Too tired after spending basically all day with her at the hospital…except for that part where I had to go and find an internet connection in order to send the bulletin information to the church secretary…because even though I can beg [...]

Mom in ICU

So the surgery went fine but the anesthesia they gave her dropped her blood pressure and it didn’t come back up. They kept her in the recovery room for almost 8 hours and then finally put in ICU.
I gave the ICU my pager number. They better not need to use it.

walking

It was cold and damp and grey. What a contrast from last week! Libby and I took about 50 minutes to round the golf course today. Mostly because someone had to smell every single tree and lamp post. Still, that’s about 4 miles. All the extra walking for CPE along with being too busy to [...]

Welcome!

11/18/08 Note: In preparation for being away from the computer for a while, I've turned off comment moderation because I want you to be able to interact with my guest posters. Be good while I'm gone kids!

Welcome to the new (and hopefully permanent) home of This Journey. It's good to have people walking along, especially during the bumpy parts. I can be contacted at not.fainthearted at gmail dot com. Or leave a comment!
