Summer trippin’

Ed: Rich said he wasn’t quite sure what I was talking about what with all the initials/acronyms. So I’ve made up some names to protect the identities. And added some details.
I don’t have time to develop this completely, but I have to get it out of my head somehow.
I got an email from X this [...]

2,009

According to my little “stats” dashboard thingy, This Journey has had it’s 2,000 visit sometime this morning. Just since January 1. The old address still hasn’t had 2,000 visits and I started tracking that back at the beginning of 2005.
Wow! Thanks everybody, for checking in on how the journey is going. The scenery is always [...]

Where’s my gold star?

I spent three hours this morning trying to tell myself that I could skip the gym. Three. Hours. From 5:45 until 8:45 talking to myself about whether I would take care of myself today or be a slug. Here are the reasons not to go:

It’s too cold
That’s what’s making you feel like sh*t
It won’t hurt [...]

Oh! So that’s why!

Now with  50% less sarcasm!
There was an article on the news last night about how to fight the winter doldrums. Talked about feelings of lethargy, sadness, mental slowness. Also mentioned some things I’m not experiencing like bloating and aches and pains…well, except for the usual shoulder.
It’s good to know this has no emotional basis whatsoever [...]

Bubblegum, anyone?

I don’t know why exactly, but this has been an ear-worm for me today. I wish I could have found a clip from the show with the whole family, but this one is from David’s early solo career.

If you’d like to hear the original, with the family, try [...]

Why is it?

When I offer to be available for someone to call at any hour, if they need to talk because they’re going through something tough, I mean it.
Why does no one offer me that?
Or have they, and I haven’t heard it?

A woman needs a man who…

I don’ t know if it is true, but I’ve heard that for a happy and serene life a woman needs a man in her life who:

can make her feel secure financially
can keep things working in the house and the yard
can match her intellectually in conversations
listens to her feelings and shares his feelings too
can make [...]

Circle of support, part 3

So far, the two people I’ve described are in my circle of support because I pay them to be.
This person I don’t pay.
He knows my work. He knows the “industry” in which I work and has been able to advise and mentor me in navigating the political aspects of these trickier than usual workplaces (religious [...]

Circle of support, part 2

I think it’s universal human nature that people need to hear that they are physically attractive at some level. To feel the confidence that comes from “not looking too bad” to phrase it in Upper Midwest Scandanavian sort of way. Sometimes our girlfriends are the advice/affirmation givers. Sometimes not. I’ve never been a woman for [...]

Circle of support, part 1

He has seen me at some of my most vulnerable times. I’ve cried, sobbed really, on his couch more than once. For about a year I sobbed in front of him every time I saw him.
Not once did he tell me how to feel. He only asked me how I felt. And walked with me [...]

Welcome!

Welcome to the new (and hopefully permanent) home of This Journey. It's good to have people walking along, especially during the bumpy parts. I can be contacted at not.fainthearted at gmail dot com. Or leave a comment!
