Starting slow

I must have had a really great vacation week last week because I’m having a heck of a time getting motivated to resume my usual break-neck speed.

I had a great meeting with LN and Subject Matter Experts for the Legal and Regulatory module I’ll be writing. There’s a boat load of raw material people need to get to me for that one but I think it shouldn’t require Herculean effort to get it ready. The Expense Report module will be a walk in the park. Mostly because the policies are changing the beginning of February, but this training takes place next week. So the only thing he wants me to do is swap in the new form and write a bit about how to fill it out.

I did talk with him about the possibility of more than 5 weeks of work. He totally understands and actually would love me to come on full-time. He understands that I just can’t go back to corporate permanently and respects that, but we do like working together.

So I came home and took DS1 to Barnes & Noble because I needed a new calendar for the kitchen.

No poodle calendars left (damn!) so I picked one that is of stained glass windows. Then YM cooked us a Japanese New Year appetizer feast…shrimp, springrolls, veggies. She had brought home some beer (and a bottle of Sake) so after I ran DS1 to the movie theater we cracked open the beers. Seasonal brew from Schell’s. We took a swig and it was amazing! Fruity and substantial. Couldn’t tell in the bottle how dark it was, so I poured mine into a glass. WOW! It was a real English-style stout. Thicker than Guiness. You can see a pic here (go to Jan 2).

When I picked up DS1 after the movie, the group at the movies turned out to be three girls and him. He was not amused with my comment about his “date.” I guess a boy doesn’t really want to talk about his dating life with his mom…but he will, one day…he will.

Hope your year is starting at a comfortable rate.

Peace.
