The execution of Saddam Hussein

This post by Mr. McCarty seems to sum up much of what I’m feeling about this whole situation and he has been able to articulate it; which is far more than I’ve been able to do so far.

Has Saddam Hussein made snuff films culturally acceptable?

Translation of the above comment (via babblefish): I would appreciate to view the video thanks

I don’t get it. You found my post via some search of tags. Use the tags to find the video. I find this not only offensive that someone is searching for this video but that s/he would leave messages on posts that s/he clearly doesn’t understand.

Thanks for the kind words. I don’t know how articulate I’ve been — my reaction made it impossible to say anything but what I wrote. I am encouraged as worldwide outrage continues to be heard — on blogs — but also among some officials. An Italian official is calling for a world-wide ban on the death penalty, Britain seems a little shame-faced, as their official position is against the death penalty. My largest concern is that the issue will not move any farther in the U. S. I hope I’m wrong. –John Paul McCarty

Poetic justice is that Saddam once criticized the American people for putting our president on trial and he publicly laughed at President Clinton for “allowing” his people this kind of freedom and now his people have hung him.

I felt a little ashamed that in watching the edited version on TV that I could dare have sympathy on such a tyrant. It felt a little traitorous. I know that the hanging was just, but in my heart it was sad because of the way it occurred. In America you only hear that an execution is set for a day and the next day you hear it’s over. In this case it was a show. He was tormented and degraded. It was scheduled on a holy day, amongst his enemies, while they were allowed to take pictures.
