Mom? What’s venison again?
True to my word to only eat from the freezer for the rest of the month, we thawed out one of the venison roasts my dad gave me for Christmas.
Yeah. Wrapped up with a bow. It’s better than the 5 pounds of “homemade” granola he’s given me for the last three years.
So I threw the roast into a slow (325 degree oven) with some carrotts, chunked up onion and a whole head of garlic, salt and pepper and vegetable oil (because game meat is notoriously lean and therefore can be dried out and tasteless if it’s not bitter)
Cooked it for about an hour and a half. I’d guess it was about a 2 pound roast. Came out about medium. As I dished up the plates for the boys, DS2 points to the juice on his plate and says “Is that blood??!”
Me: No. It’s just juice, like with roast beef.
DS2: Oh. Ok.
I know. Lying to your kid is evil. But come on. He had seconds!
