Summer trippin’

Ed: Rich said he wasn’t quite sure what I was talking about what with all the initials/acronyms. So I’ve made up some names to protect the identities. And added some details.

I don’t have time to develop this completely, but I have to get it out of my head somehow.

I got an email from X this morning informing me that “they” had decided on dates for their trip out to Holden Village this summer. “They” apparently includes family friends. Families that I used to hang around with. These are the women who were my surrogate sisters. Women who said they’d stand by me through the divorce and who for probably a multitude of reasons, haven’t.

For the sake of anonymity I’ll call them the Larsons, the Elwoods and the Porters.  I never thought Pam Porter would give up her week at the cabin to travel out to Holden. Never.

Apparently X and the Porters are going to caravan out. Larsons want to leave a day later and X doesn’t want to follow Jim Larson out anyway. (Jim has an annoying habit of not planning, not thinking through choices and going to visit things like Hoover Dam on the spur of the moment because “we’re in the neighborhood.” Yeah. Billings, Montana is closer to Hoover Dam than Minneapolis is, but it’s not “in the neighborhood.”)

Anyway, I’m finding that it feels like a little kick in the gut to realize that these former friends of mine that I used to vacation with are really former friends. It feels a little like getting dumped all over again. I’m not loving this feeling.

I’m sorry you’re bummin’. I also have no idea at all what the heck you’re talking about, what with all the acronyms and all.
