Sending them alone

The boys took their first airplane trip without me or their father. I sent them with JA, Sr.KA’s husband who was also traveling back to Minneapolis. We arranged their flights together and they sat together.
Still, it’s hard to let out that much ‘leash.’

Bright Angel Hike

The hike this morning was terrific! I think everybody feels satisfied at having hiked in the Grand Canyon. We hiked down the trail about 30 minutes before I said I needed to turn around because I wasn’t sure my knees would take much more. Plus, the trail was pretty steep going down and I was [...]

A bit of overestimation

I’m so tired I can hardly think. It’s been a good day, but we (the boys and I) may have slightly overestimated what we could do this first day.
We arrived at the airport around 4:00 a.m. Did I mention my neighbor that was kind enough to drive us is sort of a morning person. Actually, [...]

Investiture. Officially joining the community.

This post was prepared in advance because I’m in the desert outside of Phoenix. Theoretically, if all went well and everyone made it where they were supposed to be on time, I am now invested into the Deaconess Community of the ELCA. That means my internship starts Monday (same church. different ‘credit’) and some people [...]

T -16 hours

Look. I know that everyone I check with says the same thing: check-in is 2 hours before a domestic flight. But people, I just can’t believe there are going to be lights on at the airport at effing 3:15 in the A.M! I’m SORRY I booked a 5:15 a.m. flight, but it seemed like [...]

stora dimun shawl

First blocking. I’m too lazy to get the pins out. If this doesn’t give me a blocking I like I’ll do it over.
This pattern is from the Folk Shawls book by Interweave Press. It’s knit in Silky Wool (a wool/silk blend.) It took 2 more skeins that I calculated so I don’t know if my [...]

oooh goody!

The first Read-through rehearsal got done a full hour earlier than scheduled. Even though I was LATE because Z&A’s plane was one time but baggage took forever and we had to eat and accidently found this amazing little neighborhood restaurant. As in “Oh, the rib place on Hiawatha Ave is closed because it’s Monday, but [...]

Hope it rains tomorrow

Didn’t get nearly enough done today. But got a lot done. The boys got good haircuts, from Stan. We got jeans and shorts, dress socks and soccer shoes. Didn’t find dress shoes for DS2. Forgot a whole bunch of stuff at Target (film, laundry soap, batteries for camera) and didn’t make it to the grocery [...]

What I saw at 3 am

What’s that noise? People walking home from where ever. Even “normal” conversations can zip right up and into my bedroom window. Used to be more disruptive until I moved the head of the bed away from the windows.
It’s a woman’s voice. Is she laughing hysterically? Or crying? I can’t tell until I hear the male [...]

well, that’s interesting

I pulled up in front of the Poodle Club where GolfPro’s new band was to play a set tonight. Didn’t know if McKilt would be there or if he’d be accompanied, as it were.
Didn’t matter. Outside the joint before 10p.m. it looked a little too sketchy to park my car a half block away and [...]

Welcome!

Welcome to the new (and hopefully permanent) home of This Journey. It's good to have people walking along, especially during the bumpy parts. I can be contacted at not.fainthearted at gmail dot com. Or leave a comment!
