T -16 hours

Look. I know that everyone I check with says the same thing: check-in is 2 hours before a domestic flight. But people, I just can’t believe there are going to be lights on at the airport at effing 3:15 in the A.M! I’m SORRY I booked a 5:15 a.m. flight, but it seemed like a good idea at the time. Afterall, we have a 4 hour drive after we get the rental car. The Grand Canyon is apparently not right outside Phoenix.

I had a big long rambling discussion with my neighbor yesterday because she had agreed to take us to the airport. Until she found out I thought we needed to be there at 3:15 in the morning. Which means leaving Chez Journey at the very fainthearted (or at least foolhardy) hour of 2:30 a.m.

She was not too happy. After a couple of calls to the airline, in which they NEVER picked up, and a slightly unsatisfactory online chat with a customer service representative, I have decided to take the risk and not leave the house until the origianlly planned 3:30 a.m. I’ll do the web check-in thing. Hey, if it wasn’t for homeland security, I’d take the bags and check them in tonight after choir. Leaving at that hour will get us to the airport at approximately 3:50. If 1.5 hours isn’t enough time to get 2 bags checked and on the plane we’ll just have to get the bags on Friday. It’s not like my boys have never slept in the clothes they’ve worn all day before or spent the next day in the same underwear. We’ll live, by jimminy.

So, I’ve got the dog food. I’ll take the dog to the kennel on my way to church in about an hour. Everything is packed except the toiletries we need tonight (toothbrushes, contact lens solution.) We’ll take showers tonight and pack everything and set the bags by the front door. Shouldn’t have to get up much earlier than 3:15. Because I love scaring the other passengers with our middle of the night ranger look. I figure the whole plane will be full of us sleep-deprived zombies. It’ll be fun!

I have NO IDEA if I’ll have any access to an internet connection, so ya’ll might have to wait until I get back to get the stories. Take care of yourselves, ok?
