The start of summer

I learned how to use the grill today. Bought baby-back ribs yesterday at the butcher shop. The original plan was to have them yesterday after we got back from Pirates 3. I forgot that it was a L–O–N–G movie. So even though we went to the 5:30 show we didn’t get home until 9:00!

So anyway, I got home from church around noon (yeah! summer schedule!) and the boys had already made themselves lunch, so I took a nap.  YM and PrJ came by around 1:30 and took me to lunch on their way out of town. They were originally going to leave tomorrow, but I guess PrJ decided Minneapolis to Calgary is a really long drive to make in just two days.

So I came home from my late lunch and took another nap.  Because, well, I’m feeling pretty punk. Not just from the Thursday massage, or the stirred up stuff, but bloated, crampy, and tired combined with G-I disturbances. Well, I’ve said too much, perhaps. ANYWAYS…

The boys came home from their afternoon of playing X-box at a friend’s house and I got them going on the weed whacking while I started the ribs in the oven. Got the potato wedges going on the stone tray and made chipotle butter to go on the corn-on-the-cob.

Meanwhile, DS1 broke the big pruner, so I guess I’m going to shopping for yard tools again tomorrow. Probably should get a pruning saw because he broke the pruner trying to cut a weed tree that was too big. Also learned that the new cordless weed-whacker that I bought yesterday doesn’t have enough juice in one battery to do the whole yard. And of course the second one wasn’t charged. So that’s half done. I guess I’ll have some things to do outside tomorrow…before I nap in the hammock.

Of course, I had to send the boy to Walgreens for starter fluid because I remembered the coals but forgot the lighter fluid. Got the coals started. Got them spread out and finished the ribs and the corn on the grill. We ate on a card table out in the back yard. Beautiful pre-bug evening.  DS1 pointed out a robin’s nest in the lilac bush and we watched the momma robin feed the babies while we ate. They were ever so quiet because we were right there. “No peeping babies, there’s people here!”

So I grilled ribs and they were very tasty. And I can add another thing onto the list of “things I’ve learned to do since the divorce.” Next up: un-jam the front wrought-iron door and re-attach the handle so we can go in and out of the front door.

You are such the pioneer woman! I could never fix a door. Too much of a wimp. I don’t think I have ever grilled by myself either. I have seen it done a million times, but never actually have done it. Sounds like you had a wonderful evening.

Yea for grilling and being pre-bug season. I wish we were pre-bug season here, but the gnats and mosquitoes are very bad.
