One run, one hit, one error

We made it through the whole play tonight! First run: three days before opening. We almost have all the props. Those sniping comments are just some aditional frustration at the lack of “production” this company has. I finished my costume by renting a short-sleeved peasant blouse and a black lace up bodice. Yeah, don’t get excited. I play my accordion for most all the time I’m on stage.

Strangest thing happened tonight. Just as we were beginning, a couple came with a blanket and a picnic basket and set up shop up the hill from where we were set up. They proceeded to, um, well…watch the show, I guess. She sat in front of him and leaned back on him as if he were her chair. There was some hugging and kissing of the neck, etc. but overall it looked like they were watching the show…if a little more friendly than most audience members would be.

Next time I looked up, I couldn’t see him over the crest of the hill (I’m short.) One of the taller cast members said he was laying down (face up) and she was straddling him and rubbing his stomach. This sort of thing went on for over an hour and a half! I wasn’t watching closely. Afterall, I was on-stage some of the time.

Now I’m all for a romantic picnic. Really. I am. Please ask me. But it seemed a little odd, the place they picked. Within 50 yards of a dozen goof-balls doing a Shakespeare farce. Also within sight of the playground on a beautiful early summer evening. And therefore full of kids. I think this sort of thing has to come under the real-estate motto of “location, location, location.” Wouldn’t this have been better over the next hill? Just saying.

Anyway, they eventually got up and took a break during “The Medley.”

The error? Well, during director’s notes after we were done, I might have tooted a little loudly without benefit of my accordion. So much for my reputation as a cool and sexy if older woman. Must also remember not to have grilled cheese sandwiches for dinner before a show…

Some people have no concept of decent public displays of affection.

Why do people think that others want to watch them make-out?
