T-9 days

The countdown refers of course to vacation and a release from all this monkey business of work and house work and a little time to stare off into the distance (at mountains!!!) without the little voice reminding me of the To Do list from hell.

I want to elaborate a bit on yesterday’s list o’ fun. So, since I’m totally distracted today anyway, a little posting during work hours. Here’s to Fridays.

1408 - don’t know yet. didn’t see it.

Crottin cheese - excellent with grilled salmon, baguette and white burgundy

Both these refer to Wednesday evening with Mr. Hockey. We spread the picnic blanket near the Mississppi Point Park boat launch and enjoyed a delicious meal and good conversation. The weather was stunning. A few clouds, mid to low 70’s and a beautiful sunset over the Anoka/Champlin bridge. And quite a bit more al fresco nookie than I expected or have experienced in the past. It was his suggestion to skip the movie and I didn’t argue. And I’m still quite a bit distracted by the whole thing even today. And, without prompting from me, he says he is too. Quite a lot of self revelation, conversationally speaking, on both sides. And I think that’s all I’m prepared to write about that. It is nice to be distracted this way. I will say that.

Legislative debrief - impressive and hopeful…although the hope is definitely of the long-term variety.

ISAIAH Clergy-Religious Leaders’ Caucus meeting was a debrief of the Minnesota legislative session. All state reps were invited and about 15-20 were in attendance. All democrats, which is too bad, but when you’re talking about changing the political conversation away from fear, isolation and a scarcity model to one of hope, community and shared abundance I guess it’s tough to get our republican brothers and sisters to see how that’s in their enlightened self interest. Especially when there’s still a good number of people who have bought into the “I got mine, who cares if you got any” thought process.

Job offer - still waiting to hear from Sr. N but I think I’m going to take it. Unless the candidacy committee is really against it.

They’re not against it. They are supporting a PT internship in congregational social justice/mission and the church I’m currently serving is discerning whether they can or will call me for that. Most surprising of all is that Sr. N really backed off the time requirement. “Usually” is their favorite word. So where ‘usually’ a candidate would need 12 months of FT internship, if I work a PT internship for 9-12 month that focuses on this congregational leadership aspect (leading them beyond prayer to action) the committee would probably be satisfied and I could start looking for a FT call in 12 months. Of course, with LN’s job I wouldn’t be up against the wall to have to find something right away and hopefully something would appear (or be crafted) by then.

I stopped and talked with PW about the whole thing. He says it’s smart to take the job, but he’s completely up front about worrying about whether a FT job PLUS 20 hours of internship is too much. And wants me to come and talk with them before I go crazy.

First thing on “the list” - refinance the house. And refinish the bathtub.

One of the biggest things in the ‘pro’ column for taking this corporate job is the ability to refinance the house and the line of credit. I’ll be able to finish the divorce paperwork by getting the house in my name only (thereby stopping the propping up of X’s credit rating by my payment history…and also formally disconnect my credit rating from whatever he’s doing with his payment history) and hopefully ending up with a lower monthly payment that will be easier to make once I do take a FT call in 12-18 months.

The bathtub thing? One of the things that was “wrong” with this house when we bought it in 1999 was that the previous owner had mixed cleaning chemicals in the tub thereby destroying the finish. There’s nothing I find more relaxing than a nice soak in a warm tub, but not if the tub is all gritty and rough. Plus it makes it impossible to clean with this kind of a surface. And who wants to soak in a dirty tub?

So in the interest of self-care, I’m either going to have the tub replaced or refinished so that I can have a little oasis / spa time at home once the madness begins.

****

And that’s all for now. DS1 has a baseball game tonight and then I take them to their dad’s for the weekend. I’ll probably be either working or cleaning house tomorrow and Sunday afternoon. Sunday evening a bunch of us are going to see Harry Potter at the IMAX. I’ll be picking up the boys at 5:00 and being joined by my sister, Z&A and SM at the theater.
