Monkey Bear Falls
We hiked to Monkey Bear Falls today. It’s a short hike, really. 5 miles round trip and pretty easy for the most part. Some fairly steep stuff at the end. In fact, they’ve built stone stairs at the very last 4 or 5 switchbacks. I don’t remember them there before.
We saw a bear just past 10 Mile Creek. Up the mountain a bit, it had made some noise in the brush and we talked out loud a bit and he/she continued up the hill. I don’t think any of the pictures turned out, which is the problem with auto-focus cameras; they focus on the trees close in and the not large rocks…and bears…beyond the trees. Oh well.
It was a long hike however, and the we were all tired afterward. In fact the boys even took naps this afternoon. I, of course, took a nap.
It was clear blue skies and highs in the 70’s so as the sun goes down now it’s a little cool in the shade.
DS2 is in the hot tub and I came up to put on a sweatshirt as I sit and watch him. DS1 is reading in bed.
This place has a comfort level to it that has made it different. It’s magical aura has worn thin and is being replaced with fondness and familiarity. But I also wonder if it feels like it would be OK to find a new "favorite place" if you know what I mean.
