1776 and other declarations

Pretty good show. The cast was great. The guy playing John Adams reminded us both of Jason Alexander (a little bit.) Some of the musical numbers were pure K.O.R.N. and some were beautiful. I don’t think there’s a single one that could be pulled out and stand alone as a ’show tune hit’ but the ones between John and Abigail Adams were stunningly beautiful.

Mr. Hockey came over to the house before the show and we had dinner. I made Chicken Caesar Salad. We made it to the show just in time, got to our seats and I discovered that Mr. Hockey suffers a bit from claustrophobia. We had seats in the middle of the row and the air-conditioning wasn’t move the air noticeably. He lasted about 2 minutes before he had to get up. I followed him and we sat in the volunteers’ chairs for a couple of minutes until the usher found us some aisle seats. They were vacant because the ticket holders were a little later than we were (like after the house lights had gone down), so at intermission they wanted their seats back. I found myself taking the lead in talking her into trading seats with us “because we need an aisle seat” and getting all protective about not wanting to embarrass Mr. Hockey, not even knowing whether if I said why we needed an aisle seat would embarrass him!

We dawdled in the theater afterward to let some of the traffic clear the ramp after the show. I kept expecting to see someone I knew in the audience but found I just couldn’t focus on scanning the crowd for familiar faces. Have I mentioned that Mr. Hockey has amazing green eyes? Yeah. Anyway.

So, we get to the car and before he turns the key he turns to me and gets this serious look on his face, takes my face in his hands and says IT.

Not “I think” or “falling” or any other euphemisms. Just a three word declarative sentence.

I told him that I had decided to tell him the same thing tonight and he laughed and said “I beat you to it!”

Holy crap! I think the roller coaster just got higher….

See? I told you that if he was worth his salt, you wouldn’t be able to scare him away. I’m so happy for both of you.
