contractors

No, not me.

I’ve got a general contractor coming on Friday to start getting quotes on a couple of “deferred maintenance” projects around this place.

  1.  refinish the upstairs bathtub (so I can stand to sit in it. heh) and give me an estimate on what it would cost to put a shower up there.
  2. find somebody that will come out with a negative pressure blower and check for cracks on the west side of the house.
  3. give me an estimate of what it would cost to reframe the front screen door that over closes when the wind blows too hard and gets jammed and maybe replace the windows on the porch so that it could be suitable for human habitation 3 out of 4 seasons. Assuming I move the athletic locker (pile of bikes and bats and balls and such) to the garage.
  4. know any painters? That can put cupboard doors back on? that would be totally sweet and awesome.
  5. While we’re in the kitchen, how about somebody that can hook up the ice maker? It’s only been 8 years since I bought this refrigerator with the ice-maker that X never got around to hooking up.

Maybe this is mostly “handyman” type stuff….but I’ve got to start somewhere. Wouldn’t it be nice to sit on the porch and have morning coffee and read a little? Or light some candles and pour a little (lot of) wine and take a bath at the end of a crappy day….which I know is coming because I’m going back to corporate work. And that’s what those days are like.

OK. I’m just dreaming. We’ll see how much it’s really going to cost for these little dreams and whether my big-ass new salary can actually afford it. But step 1 is getting the first contractor in here. And that’s Friday at 9:30 a.m.

if you find a really cute handyman, be sure and give him my number. There’s nothing hotter than a guy in a toolbelt.

Good luck with all that. I need a contractor myself to give me an estimate on fixing the railing on my porch.
