sunny days

Finally the greyness is lifting around here. For being in a drought we’ve had more days of grey and rain since I returned from vacation than I would have liked. Or maybe it’s just the last week or so. I don’t know. All I know is I was starting to struggle against the bad stuff (leaky house, ending jobs I like, facing corporate freak shows, etc.) and the grey rain wasn’t really helping.

Today has dawn clear and cool and with low humidity. What a perfect day to go to the State Fair! Oh. But wait. My crazy mad brilliant plan to go today when the boys could bring friends and we could “hang” (read: let me buy them food and tickets to rides) and then X could arrive on the grounds and I’d leave and they could “hang” with him has been twarted.

First by a bit of apathy by the boys. I’ve been on them for a month about when they wanted to go and who they wanted to go with. Asking if they’d made plans and which day, blah blah blah. Last night I hear that DL and SL are going to deliver their big sister to Madison today (she starts college this year –how did that happen???) and my two Darling Sons are so lazy apathetic like their father easy going about it that they hadn’t really made any other arrangements. And? Not too sure that they want to spend a lot of time at the fair this year.

Well, that’s just fine, but if all you want to do is go long enough to eat a couple of foot long hot dogs, pronto pups and other various things off sticks and complain about how I drag you through the Creative Activities building (you know, the one with the knitting and the quilts and the jellies and pickles and such) then we can go on Sunday when I don’t have to coordinate with the King of Ambiguity (a.k.a. you father.) And no, I didn’t say that in that way. But I did scuttle the plans for the day.

Now watch. On Sunday it will be either 1) 104 degrees in the shade OR 2) raining like Noah’s late for work. Either way it will be crawling like an ant hill with people. One advantage to going mid-week is that you don’t get crushed by the crowd quite so much.

Oh well. At least I’ll be able to keep plugging on my cleaning projects today. The boys could even help! (HA!)

I had to kind of make Stinky go to the fair with me this year. What happened to the days when you couldn’t get them to leave?
