News Brief: Staff of Hotel Journey On Strike

Dateline: This Journey 10:00 p.m. CST 9/10/07

I’m done!

They come home and watch TV or lay on the couch and ask “when’s dinner” and “I’m out of shampoo” and “I don’t have any clean socks” (when there’s a basket FULL of clean socks sitting right in front of them.) They can’t be asked to mow the lawn because it’s either before or after a soccer game OR they’ are away with their father.

They are clearly put out when I ask them to let the dog out. They don’t find a roll of toilet paper to replace the empty- EVER. Unpack a sack of groceries? Not unless someone tells them where each item goes. Every Time. Put the clean and folded laundry away? Nah. Right here on the end of the bed is fine. Oh. By the morning it’s on the floor? Oh well.

Empty gatorade bottles on the floor in the TV room. Dirty dishes. Half drunk glasses of beverages. Trash and mess from one end of the house to the other.

And that’s after I spent a day and a half cleaning when MY recreational weekend was canceled.

And to top it all off tonight, DS2 is goofing around and spills a half-drunk beverage all over the couch, the wall and the magazines on the end table. A red beverage. And then stands there, not knowing what he should do.

The Staff has gone on Strike:

The Cook
The Maid
The Sanitation Engineer
The Valet
The Tutor
The Gardener
The Laundress
The Chauffeur
The Counselor (not that anyone talks to her. After all, she just asks annoying questions like “What happened at school today?”)

Oh, and the person in charge of technology upgrades and maintenance? Laid off. Probably for at least six months.

Everybody’s gone.

Wanna borrow a couple of teenagers?

No, but I’ll borrow your strike. What is it with the empty Gatorade bottles lying all over the house?

At least you don’t get the snotty teenage girl attitude to go with it. Ugh.
