I asked for it, I guess. Here are her questions and my best attempts at answers. Or at least my best attempt today.

1. If you could hold any position in public office in this country, what would it be and why?

That is a tough one because I don’t know that I would like to have any elected public office.

If I had to choose, I think I’d choose to be a Senator in Washington. Why? Because I think it has enough opportunity to help the most.
2. When holding this position, what changes would you make?

I would like to think that in that position I would be instrumental in moving this country to a place where we walk the talk about the American Dream, Freedom and Justice for all, and to raise (again) the idea that the government is not them (or shouldn’t be) it’s us and as such the government is responsible for taking care of things that we as individuals cannot. (i.e. protecting our civil liberties, building and maintaining infrastructure –including schools and setting policies and laws that support and promote the common good.)
3. Where do you see yourself in five years and why?

DS2 will be graduating from high school and I’ll be at another cross-roads. Stay here or look for a job in another location? Will there be a man involved? Don’t know. I think in 5 years I’ll have put corporate work behind be for good (in all the different ways that could be taken!!!) and I’ll be doing music and justice work full time. And loving it.
4. McKilt vs. Mr. Hockey - can you tell me what really gives you shivers up your spine about each one?

tempted to just say “Nope!” here (heh heh)

McKilt

• ultra smart
• very similar interests to me (musician, photography, deep and informed spirituality/theology, golf)
• emotionally sensitive
• generous, caring, giving personality
• sharp and punny sense of humor that includes lots of “band” humor….gets me, that way
• tall, bald and handsome. Great hands (get your minds out of the gutter) and beautiful blue eyes.

Mr. Hockey

• smart and articulate
• different interests from me
• very physically fit
• he has the perspective of a few more years than me
• spiritual life is center for him, even if he can’t discuss theology with me
• balanced around work and life
• passionate about his kids
• generous, kind, giving personality
• emotionally available and open
• impish sense of humor
• taller than me, but short enough that I can throw my arms around his neck without standing on a stool. Great hands. Awesome green eyes
• likes flirting in person and over email

5. What advice would you give to your kids when they get older about love and life?

1. Don’t take a job just because it pays well (doh!) Do what you love and what feeds you and the money will follow.
2. Communicate. Take the risk to tell her (because I’m pretty sure they’re both hetro…but ‘him’ if it turns out that way….) what you’re thinking. Even if you’re not sure. All the tribulations of marriage can be gotten through if you work on it together and the best way to make her feel like you’re working together is if you TALK TO HER meaningfully about stuff that matters and not just about the box scores.
3. Take time to take care of yourself. You can’t take care of anyone else unless you are healthy and filled. Find out what feeds your spirit and make time for it.
4. There is no dress rehearsal for life. Throw yourself into it as if you don’t get a second chance, because you don’t.
5. Give second chances. Especially to the ones you love.
6. But don’t be a door mat. Know what you need in a relationship and look for it gently but firmly. Don’t settle for the first girl who goes out with you or who lets you feel her up thinking that no one else will come along.
7. Be generous with yourself, your time and your posessions. They’re not really yours anyways. We are not here to serve ourselves but to love and serve others. However don’t forget about #6
8. Remember I love you even when you don’t think I approve of what you’re doing.
