Thankfulness
Thankfulness is a humble position.
For me it means I realize that I am the recipient. I come with empty hands and go away full. I come in need and go away served. I come lonely and find love and friendship. Even Especially on the days when my trek seems hard, (and there are many, many days when for whatever reason my trek seems hard) I know, and usually remember, that I have much to be thankful for.
Sometimes that remembrance is “in comparison.” For instance, I have more than one pair of shoes. That makes me more well off than over 80% of the people on this planet. Just for an example. Sometimes, reading your stories I feel thankful that I’m not in your shoes!
But the best, the time when the Thankfulness sets me back on my heels, takes my breath away and risks making me burst into tears of joy is when I realize how many of my prayers have been answered.
This Journey is abundant: children, friends, health, a well-paying job, health insurance, progress on the internship front, Mr. Hockey, being on “the other side” of the divorce chasm, the chance to make music and theater twice this year.
And you.
The simple words of encouragment at just the right moment. Learning that I’m not alone or unique in my struggles. Being able to listen to (well, read) your stories and encourage you. Learning that my journey has given me the gift of being able to offer a word of encouragement to you.
A reciprocity has been established. A reciprocity that I value very highly.
My plan tonight, after all my guests have left, is to visit your place and say thanks individually. But I thought I’d say thanks here, too.

Happy Thanksgiving! You have no idea how thankful I am to have met you, even if through the internet. You have really been a great person to get advice from. I am so glad your life is full of people who love and care about you. Being a mother and a companion makes it all worthwhile. Have a wonderful day. Hug the boys for me. Happy Thanksgiving! I’m always glad to hear how other people are doing. If they’re doing well, I’m happy for them, if not — well, obviously I feel badly. But either way it reminds me to reflect on my own situation, usually in a positive way.

What a gorgeous post! I’m just now catching up on my rounds. I love the technology that allows us to have these quiet moments of connection that don’t depend on compatible schedules or geography! I’m thankful for the connection and fun of new webfriends! Peace.
