All this and Rocky IV

All of us at Chez Journey slept the sleep of the exhausted today. Except for Libby the Wonder Poodle, whose schedule should not be tampered with thankyouverymuch. At the risk of having to clean up things that ought not to be left in the house, if you know what I mean.

I went back to bed after Libby’s morning constitutional.

We had a bit of breakfast around, oh noon. And then took naps.

Finally, around 2 o’clock we got down to the business of the day. Making cookies. First up were chocolate chip (DS2’s request) and then we tackled the rolled cookies.

Maybe it’s because I’m finally old enough to have figured it out. Or maybe the rolled cookie elves were in a generous mood. Doesn’t matter. Today they worked!

Lord knows they’re putzy though. It’s 5:30 and DS2 is still sprinkling sugar and we have another small ball of dough to roll out. The peanut brittle will have to wait until tomorrow. And yes, that is an Evil Christmas Pig in the center.

You realize these are boys making the cookies, right? I’m just lucky the soldiers didn’t have blood dripping from their bayonets or the gingerbread men don’t have candy guts hanging out. As they have other years! (The boys are always so proud to describe what the person has just chosen off the cookie tray at M&N’s traditional open house.)

We’re about done. It will be turkey sandwich time and then DS2 and I will settle down to watch Rocky IV. One of the local (?) networks has been showing the Rocky movies every Friday night and for some reason, I caught most of the first one with him a few weeks ago. It’s turned into sort of a mother-son thing. Which honestly, I just shake my head at. I couldn’t stand these movies when they first came out and I don’t think I’d ever seen one past the first Rocky. But he likes them and I like spending time with him. And it’s good to work together at pointing out and laughing at the funny 70’s fashions and hair and the wooden lines. He especially laughed at Apollo’s short t-shirt last week while Apollo was training Rocky on the beach (in Rocky III). He also thought Mr. T was particularly funny. And we both like Hulk Hogan’s routine. What a hoot.

OK. Off to turkey sandwich making and all the fun of knitting and boxing!

(Note: Abbagirl, I haven’t forgotten the tag. It’s just taking me a bit to figure out what to write. I know. Shocking that I’m actually planning out a post. Stranger things have happened, I’m sure.)

I have mother-son connections with my boys that I NEVER could have foreseen either. I think it’s a good thing I didn’t know what was coming because out of context - I would have dreaded what I’ve come to treasure. The cookies look wonderful! Hope the rest of the holiday season stays sweet for y’all.
    Peace.
