Reflections on NaBloPoMo

It’s November 30. The end of NaBloPoMo. It’s been an interesting month. I managed to post something of significance (I think they were significant anyway) every day. That was due in no small part to a couple of adventures that came my way.

I met some interesting new bloggers due to a random meme. And I even launched my own meme out into the blogosphere. Who knows if the ripples went any further than I saw them, but it was a fun experiment.

I tried a couple of “series” posts. Planning for Christmas and Webbie Activism and set up a registry at Heifer International for all of you, my bloggy friends, to pitch something toward making this world a better place.

I have to admit that there were days when coming up with a post was more difficult than others. And there were still a couple of days where I couldn’t help post more than once. But there is a post on every calendar day, and that was the goal, right? Thanks to NaBloPoMo for that little extra push to write something anyway on those days that felt less than inspiring. I’ll let you know if my tenacity and perseverance pays off in the form of a NaBloPoMo prize.

In other news I want to remember, I saw Mr. Hockey again tonight after not seeing him since Nov 9 because of scheduling conflicts. Gave him his birthday present (which he loved.) It was good to be with him what with everything that’s going on. But I’m sad that December looks like another month of not so much time together. Between his having to juggle his weekend schedule because his ex wanted the kids on Hanukkah weekend (7-9) and then having his kids for Christmas break and the weekend before we have this weekend and then the last weekend. And both weekends are shot through with his son’s hockey games or practice. Also in there is a choir concert on a Thursday and a game on a Thursday and then being out of town on the Thursday after Christmas and we have the 6th and then not until the 29th.

And that’s not even taking into consideration what will happen if I am in the hospital during December, but given the schedule I’m not counting on him to be a support for me if this happens in December. It doesn’t even look like he’d have time to visit me during my convelescence, whether there’s a hospital stay or not.

I’ll be spending the next couple of weeks pulling together lists and talking with a few people to prepare them for helping me when I have surgery. The idea of asking people to take time out of their lives to help me during this is new and novel activity for me but I have to do it. Looks like I’m going to have to learn to lean on my friends a little.

Ah. Learning experiences. Always so much fun! How do you ask for help? Do you?

Also, please don’t forget about my Big Blogosphere Holiday Experiment over at Heifer International. Give what you can.

Edit: If you are still looking for some gifts to give with your charitable donation card (you know…to ease them into the idea) there’s no better place than the Arts and Crafts Fair going on over at Neil’s. AMAZING stuff by bloggers the world over. Ok. I don’t know for sure if any are international or not, but you know what I mean. And this way, with you’re supporting a starving artist too!

Wow. This month just blew right by. Lots happened.

How do you ask for help? You just ask. It’s harder than it seems. You are a strong woman like myself and I hate asking for help. But sometimes, it’s better if you do.

December will be here and gone before you know it. A new year will be upon us. Can’t wait!

I’m the worst at asking for help. With my orphan issues, I feel like I owe everyone just for my existence anyway. After the tornado, I was lucky I had so many wonderful friends who just left anonymous cash and came over and told me I was going to stay at their house while the roof was still off of mine.

So, did you and Mr Hockey have a decent talk? it sounds like you are still planning on hanging out…

Hi. Is there going to be anything cool like NaBloPoMo in December? I didn’t even know about it in November and how do you/I find these fun things????

Abbagirl and Churlita - thanks. It’s good to know it’s hard for others too.

Bonnie- you just find out about these things by reading other blogs. There are lots of different writing challenges and photo challenges. Just keep reading lots of different blogs and you’ll see references to them, I guess.
