First Day of Winter

I woke up Saturday morning to winter wonderland. The kind of snow that sticks on each little branch and twig and wire.

And I wanted to call Mr. Hockey and say “Look how beautiful!”

and I wanted to put on coats and boots and mittens and hats and take a walk.

Instead I put on coat and mittens and boots and went to the grocery store and the butcher shop. snowrail.jpg

And then started in cleaning.

As I finished up some cookies (the snickerdoodles…which are FANTASTIC) and watched the sunset I wondered how your day went and whether you got all your errands and tasks done. I’m so far behind in reading up on you all that I have no idea!

I made a huge dent on getting the house in shape. I made a BIG pot of chicken soup (and there’s chicken ready to be made into a pie in the freezer…) and I made a strange little version of a shepherd’s pie for dinner tonight.

DS2 spent the afternoon out at the movies with his friends. DS1 spent the afternoon in the living room watching movies with his GIRLFRIEND….and giving her a Christmas present (an adorable koala teddy bear.) After The GF goes home (she can’t stay for dinner unfortunately) and DS2 comes home and we eat dinner we’ll work on cleaning the dining room table and few loads of laundry.

Then tomorrow, after church, we’ll finish laundry and I’ll make Yulekakka (Scandanavian sweet bread with citron and dried cherries in it…TRADITION!) Should be an easy slide into Monday.

The only hitch is that I haven’t wrapped the Santa presents and I don’t know exactly when I’ll do that since these boys outlast me at night….maybe I’ll just have to go in my room and finish them there….

It’s very funny sitting in the darkened dining room, writing this while I watch Libby the Wonder Poodle try to get between DS1 and The GF on the couch.

I’m very tired from what I’ve already done. I suspect my lack of stamina is related to my need for surgery next week, but it’s still frustrating. I hope I can get the boys to step up tonight to do some things.

Hey girl. I am very tired this evening. Probably all the snow we received from the heavens today. I hope the boys pitch in and help their mom out. God knows she does so much for them. ;) I’ll check in with you tomorrow. Hope you have a great day.

My kids would’ve LOVED it if we got that kind of snow. Aside from a teeny bit of snow, all we’ve gotten is this icky slush that turned to solid ice. Yeep!
