Back to the salt mines

The new year has started off with a bit of a bang…at least the part that involves work.

I went in late; partly because I forgot to turn my alarm back on and the sun sure doesn’t wake one up “on time” this time of year and partly because DS2 was up a lot last night with a little tummy trouble.

My friend (and boss) LN really knows how to rattle my cage though. Today he brings me in and subtly slides in a comment about succession management which is a common activity for companies the size of this company. And then he makes some crack about hoping that I’ll “give up the church because you’re the only one I can put down to succeed me when I step in front the bus.” And also assigned me the redesign of the management curriculum. Joy oh joy.

sheesh.

And then late in the day he asked how the internship was going (hasn’t started yet) and what it was going to entail (talked a bit about it) and how I was going to manage adding in that time (don’t know exactly.)

I got several calls from folks regarding the internship today. One from the chair of the social justice committee, regarding the information session on 1/13, and one from the children’s choir director confirming that I’ll lead the children’s Lenten worship services (which will mean being at church by about 3:45 on Wednesdays.)

I also fielded several emails regarding some synod sponsored training that coming up. “Vital Congregations — Just Communities” The description is below. Let me know if you’d like to attend. Get yourself up here and you can stay in my guest room and I’ll pay your tuition. Seriously.

Is worship a brief respite from the grind or the thing that forms and sends us into the world as God’s partners? Does the Lutheran take on Law and Gospel, vocation, the priesthood of all believers and the two kingdoms inform our understanding of power, self-interest, deep public relationships and our need to reclaim the free gifts of God?
If you would like to engage these and other questions, attend this 3 day workshop that will introduce the tools for building vital relationships and congregations. This is for pastors, church staff and lay leaders.

There’s no choir tonight so now that I’ve finished dinner I’m going to put on my jammies and knit while watching the special on sitcoms on PBS.
