Impeachment
There are several in my family who think that it’s unnecessary to continue “all this talk about impeachment” because “this is his last year” and “what good would it do” and some other on-the-fence kinds of arguments.
If any of those thoughts have crossed your mind, I urge you to read this very reasoned article by George McGovern in yesterday’s Washington Post.
Now, some of you may think “oh, he’s just for impeachment because of what Nixon did to him” but you would be wrong. Actually McGovern never jumped on the impeach Nixon bandwagon. He didn’t have to because there were a lot of people in the congress who had spines back then and were organized and not afraid to stand up.
It amazes me that this country would impeach Clinton for private sexual improprieties but won’t call Bush-Cheney to account for systematically dismantling the Constitution. Or at least call them to account for other illegal stuff they’ve pulled!
I know we’re all enthralled and otherwise occupied with the side-show of the primaries and the various pundits’ “reporting” of polls and predictions. But what if we all just took 5 minutes to email our congressional representatives and your senators and remind them that it’s not just about the Presidential race; that we’re still watching them. Sadly, we’re watching them sit on their hands and nod to one of the most corrupt administrations this country has ever known.
And remind them that nodding is complicity.

If it would end this war, I’m all for it. The military has propelled my family down the tube. It’s bad when service to your country of your family member sucks the life out of your own patriotism. Or when seeing your president diminished your patriotism.

We should do a hell of a lot more than impeach. We should CONVICT. Impeachment is just the start.
Impeachment won’t end the war. It’s too late for that. That’s up to the next President. But impeachment, and conviction, will jail a bunch of criminals.

I have gotten into the mind that no matter which half of our one party system is running the show that nothing will change. Garbage out, garbage in. Our system of government is broken and I am afraid beyond repair at this point.
Just remember, in our last election, both candidates attended the same school. They were probably taught by the same professors, and they both almost certainly knew the secret handshake.
We are being scammed.

I have to say that I completely disagree with Evil-e.
Do you really think that 8 years of Al Gore would have been the same as 8 years of George Bush?
I don’t even know where to begin on that one.
Environment? Too easy.
Intelligence? Too easy.
Iraq? No family vendetta there, with Gore.
The system may be partially broken, but that doesn’t mean it has completely failed.
