Saturday Photo Scavenger: Temptation

Well, what an interesting word. This time posed by evil-e, I think. Temptation has a lot of different ways it could go. The idea of being tempted, I guess assumes that you’re trying not to succumb to the thing or force, for whatever reason. Usually the reasons are some value judgment of good vs. bad. Of course, the chief good v bad folks are religions.

Here’s an iconographic image of the temptation of Christ.

This temptation is archetypal: food, wealth, power. Probably Kazantzakis was right and the devil tempted him with love and family, too. Can’t believe it wouldn’t have been just as effective.

For me, maybe a little more mundane images illustrate. But maybe they’re the same categories. Just slightly more specific.

Chocolate. Always, always, always a temptation.

I’m sorely tempted to spend money that I should be saving to get out of this winter, even if only for a few days.

And I must admit that while I know this is a little less common temptation, a man in a kilt will get a second, and maybe third look from me.

I love a kilt, especially the bad boy kind. I dated a guy who bought one at a Celtic festival we were visiting. When he got home, his siblings made fun of it, but he didn’t care. A few weeks later, he wore it to a River Dance performance with me. If only he had been tempting beyond the kilt!

    Very interesting takes….

Being a former art student I can truly say that I cannot abide Christian iconography. I always think that children did the icons because they are so flat and lack any sort of dimension. I know they came from pre-Renaissance, but still, just cannot look at the icons.

Caught me off guard with the kilt….very new and interesting thought.

Nice. I am a huge fan of the chocolate. I hadn’t considered men in kilts specifically…but yeah! Great job on temptation :-)
