Just the facts

There’s a photo scavenger that needs to be written but that will have to wait until I find a few pictures. In the meantime, I want to remind myself of what I accomplished today.

It was a beautiful spring day. No, I didn’t accomplish it, but I was aware enough to enjoy it. And that’s an accomplishment.

I got up all excited because I was going to go get my motorcycle permit. Forgetting completely that while I can certainly renew my drivers’ license, pay for my automobile tabs or even get a fishing license, I cannot, on a Saturday, take a permit test. That part of the State is closed. *le sigh*

So I moved on to objective #2: gloves. I’m not going to invest a ton of money in motorcycle gear until after the class, as there is always the possibility that I won’t pass, or won’t like it or in some way not move forward with the whole idea right now. I have jeans, I have boots that go over my ankle, I can borrow a helmet that fits me from McKilt, and I have a denim long-sleeved jacket that will work for the 5 hours of field training. But gloves? Gloves I can get. Gloves are $30 and if I don’t use them for driving a motorcycle I can use them when I’m a passenger, or when I ride my bike (although that might make me look like a supreme dork. depends.)

Finally I’ve had an experience at a motorcycle shop that didn’t remind me of walking into the hardware store in the mid 1970’s. You know, where all the guys stop talking but nobody comes to ask to help you? Don’t know the scene? Count yourself lucky.

Anyway, a very nice man talked with me about helmets and suggested that when I’m ready to get a jacket to come in and they’ll usually do a “deal” on a “package” with boots and chaps and such. Neato. Got his card too, because he said he has a 250cc Yamaha cruise (I forget what model he said it was) in his garage that he’s rebuilt for a girl that never came back to get it. He thought he could probably find her to clear the title if I was interested in buying it. So there’s another possibility besides the Honda Rebel.

After that I went home for a bit and then went to the gym. I had skipped my meeting with J yesterday because I was still feel the effects of whatever it was that was going through me on Thursday. I was glad she had an opening today rather than waiting until Monday, because I don’t know if I’m ready to meet with her twice in five days!

After the gym I stopped by the grocery to pick up an hors d’oeuvre for the progressive dinner. Then home for a little lunch (at 3:00) and a nap. Throw in a quick run over to someone’s house to try on a pair of motorcycle boots (craigs list, $35…you gotta look.) but they were too big.

Put on some clean clothes, brushed my teeth and grabbed my Drunken Goat cheese, water crackers and hand thrown plate and cheese knife.

The progressive dinner was within the church building. We stood around and had appetizers for a while and then, according to our name tags too a seat for the salad course, a different table (with different people) for the main course (roast pork, baked potatoes, applesauce and green beans) and then dessert (cheese cake with caramel, chocolate and pecans on top…and coffee) Great conversation and great food and generally a very pleasant evening.

After that, I came home, cleaned up the hot chocolate mix the dog had gotten into and spread all over the couch (and yes, I know how dangerous chocolate is for dogs!) She opens the cupboard on her own and raids it when she is particularly ticked off at me. Usually it’s cereal bars. Sometimes soup mix or pancake mix. Today it was Swiss Miss Marshmallow Lovers. Two or three packets as far as I can tell. So now she is laying next to me in the bed looking like she ran a marathon and every once in a while sighing. And then every other once in a while emitting greenish clouds of noxious fumes.

Anyway, that was Saturday. I didn’t do laundry, or grocery shopping, or catch up with work, or make appointments for internship conversations, or find any of a hundred different pieces of paper I need to give someone or another over the next week, or finish putting together the materials for the assembly.

It will all get done. Somehow.

Although, I’m thinking about going to see “Leather Heads” tomorrow, if it’s raining.

I’m laughing at your dog. Of course, if it were one of the cats, I would not be amused, but the poofs of noxious fumes are funny as long as I can’t smell them. Naughty doggy!

And yay for you on the motorcycle! What fun!

Love the motorcycle talk. It’s all new to me.
