It isn’t raining rain, you know…

I need to count a few blessings today. I find it interesting to note that my grandmother’s voice is in my head saying things like: “Don’t name these things out loud. People will think you think you’re special.”

Yeah. Welcome to upper mid-west Norwegian-American psychology.*

And don’t worry grandma, I don’t actually think I deserve any of this (much less all of it!) And I’m pretty sure that things will start to suck again, real soon.

Still, I feel like I need to acknowledge some of the abundance of the universe that has landed on my lap.

  1. That corporate job I have? The one that I cried about taking last summer? Yeah, LN gave me a raise. In the middle of a recession.
  2. I was able to refinance my TWO mortgages to a single 30-year fixed mortgage based only on my own income and now all in my own name.
  3. I have been thinking for a couple of weeks about whether we should let a few people know we could have another room-mate and I get a call Friday from Sr. N about soon-to-be-Sr. MC who suddenly needs a place to live. And there’s that empty room I have! So she moved in yesterday. On a trial basis until the end of May. We’ll evaluate in mid-May.
  4. I passed my motorcycle permit test Tuesday on the first try. (only 1 wrong!)
  5. McKilt’s mom is in town this week to visit her granddaughter (uh, that would be McKilt’s daughter, for those of you keeping score at home) and we got together Wednesday evening for dinner. After dinner, McKilt went off to a short rehearsal and I took S to my church to show her the John August Swanson exhibit we’re hosting. We were going to go over to the coffee shop to wait for McKilt, but it was closed. So we wandered the little locally owned bookstore for a while and then went over to a neighborhood restaurant (read: fancy with linen tablecloths and things…sort of destination restaurant, really) for a cup of tea until he joined us. The conversation was fun and I think a good time was had by all.
  6. I really like that I’m seeing McKilt as much as I am and that there’s not a lot of pressure and angst tied up in it. (Working hard at not over-thinking, over-analyzing or projecting. Also working hard at not looking at his hands.)
  7. It is finally beginning to feel a little like spring. Wednesday was pleasant enough to have the back and front doors open while I worked at home. Pretty soon Open Windows!!!
  8. I think I’m actually starting to like my workouts. And I think I’m actually starting to prioritize it…I want it more, that’s for sure. And (I’ll say it in a quiet voice, so as not to jinx it) I think I’m starting to lose some weight.

You should shout all of your good things from the rooftop. You deserve them. Isn’t it crazy how we are all so socialized to think that it’s bad for people to think we think we’re special? Really, if we don’t think we’re special, how will anyone else?
