So, you think you’re “in charge” huh?

Or, “What a difference a week makes.”

I was just thinking this morning, as I dragged my exhausted and somewhat unkempt self out of bed, how laughable last Saturday’s post is.

I actually thought that I could “decide” to save more money by calling a moratorium on non-essential spending. I actually thought I had that level of control over the events and circumstances of my life.

I had a contractor over yesterday afternoon to look at the shower. I was supposed to have two but the second one didn’t show up before I had to leave for an evening meeting. So, he’ll come this morning.

The first one looked at the situation and is recommending replacing the entire floor of the shower and the walls 3 feet up. The subfloor is so wet you can see the moisture from the bottom of the flooring (in the basement.) No one has any idea what’s under the tile. For all we know they laid the tile right on plywood.

I have left-over tile for the floor and the walls. But the backer board, and new shower pan are not going to be cheap. And then there’s the labor.

Maybe I should rethink the “give the clutter away” theory and re-examine the garage sale/ebay theory.

I am looking around my own house today and making a list of the “must fix” items. Not fun.

Hope you are having a great start to the weekend!

The fiance is totally getting rid of unwanted clutter by way of yard sale. Just think… money for gas.

Your spending moratorium post was so encouraging for me! I have been cheapening out like CRAZY because I need to start a business soon and I need capital capital capital.

Yes, the unexpected comes up and that’s why we DO have discipline as you were so gloriously imposing.

Go garage sale! Here’s to making money off our unneeded!

You can still look at your moratorium as something you want to do in general. I can’t imagine things like your shower will happen all the time.
