Self-Care gone mad

Mad I tell you!

It was the third day of crazy running around trying to be a good employee for ‘da man’, trying to be a good mom by taking kids to eye appointments, orthodontists and half-price books for summer homework reads, trying to be a good person by adding exercise into the mix. I met with my trainer this afternoon and in the middle of it realized that I really really did not want to haul myself out of there and rush all the way to West Bloomington (15 miles further away from home.)

What was going to be in West Bloomington? A meeting reviewing the accomplishments of a Council of Churches project my other job is interested in being involved with. But no one from the congregation was going to be joining me.  One person asked if there would be an update in the newsletter.

I realized I could always call the executive of the project and have coffee with her, get the update and write my article without having to make it a marathon day today, complete with 2-3 gallons of gasoline, and no dinner.

So I went home. Had a weird dinner. Watched the end of Season 1 of "Sex and the City" still stinky from my workout and then took a bath.

I didn’t dig into The Great De-clutter of 2008 project. I didn’t tidy up the kitchen or start more laundry or any of 1,000,000 other things I should have been doing. It was like a free evening and I gave myself a get out of jail free card and sat on my (slightly smaller) butt.

Now to bed early. Because tomorrow is another adventure in trying to be everything to everybody. Including myself.

Good for you.You needed a break. You can do way too much stuff again tomorrow, but sometimes you just need to give yourself that get out of jail free card day.

Half-Priced Books is one of my favorite stores. That place has everything if you are willing to scrounge around a little.
