Abandoning Ship

As of this week the following people are leaving the Corporate Job place of employment. Some of their own volition, because they can’t stand being thrown under the bus one more time; some because the parent company is continuing to restructure without officially calling it a restructuring.

  • KS - Accounts Receivable Manager. In charge of the new accounting system that isn’t quite installed yet.
  • DD - Director Project Manager office. Often a bottle-neck but the only guy who has all the IT dev project information in his head.
  • KL - CFO. Not his decision.

And, my sources tell me, the housecleaning is not done. The VP who is on campaign to build her empire is beginning to unravel (which is, I believe the main motivation for KS and DD to seek different shores) and behaving extraordinarily poorly in meetings.

The unfolding of next events in the next few months will be strange to say the least.

My hope is that LN finds somewhere quickly and can just as quickly bring me with him. I’m not in the mood to mount a corporate job search and I’m not in a position to begin a search for a first call. If LN leaves before the VP of HR is removed (my guess on who is next) I will likely be named Director in his place. If VP of HR is already gone, the Out-of-control VP will likely have our department and will name one of her cronies, even though none of them are qualified to do the job. But politically, that is what they will do. And working for her would be one of those special kinds of hell, where you do the work and feed the boss the right answers because she will have not freaking idea of how to steer the big picture. And no matter how much you try to do what is best for the company, the bottom line for her will always be “how can I make myself more powerful.”

Maybe it’s not so mysterious why I’m feeling stressed and exhausted, bordering on depressed, these days.

I’m so glad I don’t work for a corporation. Although, working for the state comes with its own special brand of crazy-making.

Yeesh. What a freakin’ nightmare. I think one of the reasons I run my own company is because I want to create my OWN stress.

RIch | Championables last blog post..Yeah, I’m bad like that.

I think you should start collecting those dead mice for future use.

Diva - or not! This kind of bullshit is what I was wailing about last year this time when I got the offer…and why I didn’t want to take it. It’s what they do. It’s who they are. I want off the damn merry-go-round!

Churlita - yeah. My friend LH talks of the joys of living off the “gummit teat” (she’s a county court reporter.)

Rich- I tried working for myself in the 90’s. What a freak of nature my boss was. If I was conscious I thought I needed to be “productive.” No down-time At. All.

DCup- Now THIS is the best idea since I found out Mickey and Friends had moved in.! LOL!

I work for a corporation and have in the past. I actually don’t mind it so long that people stay out of my hair and off my back. So far so good. The company I work for is large, very large, but a pretty nice place to work. I am being compensated very well to boot.

The last big company I worked for had a major purge due to fancy accounting and SEC investigations. It was rough when the entire executive staff was jettisoned off into space. We had several consultant executives and some weird regimes. The company eventually was forced to shut down directly due to 911. (airport security company)

My personal worst work experience came at a family owned small payroll company. My workload was hideous and my pay was as well. The only saving grace there was the people.

Hopefully things work out for you.

Sounds like my place of employment. I secretly go through hell quietly with one of my bosses. I can’t stand her. Her nick name is Cankles.
