What “counts” and what doesn’t?
And who decides?
Today, from 9:30 until about 1:00 I helpe ZH&AH move. Out of a 2nd floor walk-up into a 3rd floor walk-up. Now, I’m short and a girl (with not much upper body strength) so I didn’t help carry the really big heavy stuff. That means I took a LOT of trips with small boxes; some of books, some of other stuff. Up empty, down full - for 2 1/2 hours. Yes, there were some pauses and breaks in there, but we all also worked up a good sweat.
Then, a short drive to the new place and reverse the process - up full and down empty. By about 12:15 my knees were starting to complain and my arms were occasionally noodle-y.
Lunch, (pizza and a beer) didn’t happen until 2:00. I got home around 3:00 and could basically changed my clothes and flopped onto the couch.
I watched "The Usual Suspects" with Keven Spacey. (Never seen it. Don’t judge me! It came out at a time when I only watch animated Disney movies over and over and over and over….) Really good movie.
I had all the intensions in the world to shower and go out to St. Anthony Main where there was a free outdoor concert tonight. (A New Orleans style brass band, but all guys from here.) I had my picnic blanket ready and everything, but I was so exhausted I couldn’t make myself do it. So I put in "Hitch" and watched that instead.
Tomorrow, I really really have to get in gear and finish priming the dining room. And my room needs serious attention. I think I’d rest so much better if I got my ass in gear and cleaned that up and made it cozy again. Instead of the repository for baskets for unfolded socks and such.
ANYWAY, the title of this post refers to the fact that I sent a text to my trainer, telling her that my cardio today was moving these friends for three and a half hours. I figure that there had to be 30 minutes of continuous sweating in there AT LEAST.
She texts back that it doesn’t count! WTH! Can any of you exercise freaks of the blogosphere explain to my WHY this wouldn’t count as cardio? Hell, I think with all the bending and lifting it might count for weight training too, except I need to work on legs so that I can hold yoga poses like Warrior for more than 3 seconds without crying like a baby. But I didn’t float that to her, did I? No, I went with cardio. Because really? I was sweating and breathing harder doing this than I do on the treadmill.
So who does decide what counts as a workout or not?
