Round two

(Back story is here and here.) (Also, it turns out chicken-little may have been more right than I want to admit.)

It was leaked to me this afternoon that the VP of HR has been let go. The official announcement, if there will be one, won’t be until after an all managers meeting tomorrow at 10 a.m. Both LN and I (and the VP, frankly) thought we had at least until the end of the year, maybe even into Q1 before this move was made.

My boss has learned that he will be reporting to someone whom he does not trust and against whom he could potentially bring action for things she did about two years ago. If the statute of limitations hasn’t run out on that sort of thing. But the way things are going, if he brings it up they might fire him to try to avoid the lawsuit. Theoretically that would be a bad move on their part, but that doesn’t solve the issue that people (i.e., him, his family, oh and me and I suppose the rest of our team) would need to deal with the aftermath of that firing in the short term. Or he could suck it up and be miserable. Then only the people that know him well would know he was suffering. Afterall, who are you going to complain to when the person running HR is now 1500 miles away?

Since things seem to be leaning towards the "weirdest/stupidest decision possible" end of the spectrum, it’s also quite possible that the new onboarding process we spent three months designing and honing will be dismantled. Whether that means we’re all laid off or told to re-design it into a stupid configuration (like 3 days instead of 9 days, no qualified proxied check-offs, that sort of thing. Given the industry, that would be really stupid and really unsafe) doesn’t really matter. Either way tomorrow is not likely to be a low-stress day.

I also found out that two more qualified and quality people from marketing have given notice.

On the brighter side, the rodent repellent was here when I got home! (And has been deployed to all parts of the house except near where I think they’re coming in. And yes, I can smell it a little. Kind of like camping. I’ll suffer for a couple of weeks if it works. And no, I don’t think the high-frequency repellers are enough because I was up between 2-4a.m. from hearing the plastic bag in my trash can crinkle.)
