The things I learned today
Turns out the lovely color (Eve Green….I know. The name doesn’t do it justice) that I picked for the dining room, thanks to my friend BP, needs to have a "deep tint" primer. Because otherwise it would take probably four coats to cover. Cover what? That would be the WHITE PRIMER I SPENT MOST OF JULY APPLYING TO THE ENTIRE ROOM.
I think I may have looked a little…uh, stressed (?) when I said "It would have been nice if someone had told me that when I bought the three different colors to paint samples. Because I just finished priming the whole room WHITE."
Because the nice gentleman behind the counter at Hirschfield’s said he would check. While he checked I found the "deep tint" primer. $25 a gallon. About the same I’d spent on the white primer. But now, I’d have to do it over again.
I interrupted the experiement behind the paint shaker. "How much is the paint? Because the primer is $25 a gallon and if the paint is about that maybe I should just do two coats of color?" That’s when he explained that the paint was really around $40 a gallon and it would probably take 4 gallons (4 coats) to cover.
And then he said the most remarkable thing I’ve EVER heard: "We’ll give you the deep tint primer."
Excuse me? Seriously?
He also threw in the new paint pan and the roller covers.
I didn’t tell him that Hirschfield’s probably wouldn’t have lost me as a customer over this. But I will tell you they definately secured me as a customer over it.
AH and ZH are coming over this afternoon. It’s hot and I’ve cranked the air-conditioning to 75 so I hope we don’t melt while we prime and then paint. Z will be assembling the new (to us) gas grill and installing a ceiling fan in the boarder’s room. We might get it done today. I pray we do.
On the plus side, I have steak in the refrigerator, new potatoes, zuccini to grill and cherry pie (home made- except for the frozen crust) for dessert.
