running

Quick list for my memory

  • had lunch with SrN. Great conversation. She couldn’t get to her car afterwards because 2nd Ave and the parking garage were cordoned off. Either Palin or McCain (or both) were entering or exiting the Hilton. Or maybe it was an "incident." Don’t know. I got a picture of law enforcement and MPs lined up along the balconies. I’ll post it, I swear!
  • busy day at work. 3 courses launched.
  • Choir started tonight
  • gave my last accordion lesson for the summer to BS. Can’t believe she’s majoring in Chemistry with the musical head (and hands) she has.
  • Didn’t go out for beers after choir but stood around in the hall and rehashed various recent political events with SB, GBM and SW. We are all in agreement that we don’t know what has happened to our country.
  • The whole political atmosphere has me stressed and depressed and questioning too much of my life. "They" (right wing ultra conservative Christian groups) twist the language and the meaning of what I do into what they do so that I not only question and agonize over what I’m doing but begin to be reluctant to be called Christian for fear of being lumped together with them. They have hijacked the gospel, the word Evangelical, the word Christian and the concept of faith in public life and the concept of prayer and discernment to such an extent that to use the same language is to feel dirty and obscene. And to dwell on it gives me a headache and my stomach clench.
  • I came home from choir and had to spend an hour researching links to send to people.
  • I’m writing this after midnight (but back-dating) and I can hear the helicopters that are ushering the big-wigs from the Excel Center to their hotels in Minneapolis. Reminds me of the summer we were known as Murder-apolis and the police resorted to patroling with helicopters so that they could be ready to chase and apprehend murder suspects. All night long.
