Always we begin again – NaBloPoMo 2008
Today was the first Saturday I’ve spent completely alone in a couple of months. JMC has moved out a couple of weeks ago, but the boys were with me last weekend.
So, today, the only one making the agenda was me.
I wimped out on going to hear music last night after the Trick-or-Treaters and went to bed at 9:00 p.m. Even though I’d gotten in to see my massage therapist yesterday afternoon I was sore and exhausted from a good workout and the massage.
I got up this morning and fed Libby the Wonder Poodle and then went back to bed for another couple of hours. It was decadent and luxurious and I’ll probably pay dearly for it in ToDo lists that will need to be accomplished in less time, but I needed it.
After I finally hauled my butt out of bed and took a shower I ran an errand and then went over to the Obama campaign office where I spent about three hours on the phone bank. It was a GREAT way to spend an afternoon. Most all of the people I talked with were polite, thanked me for calling and (most importantly) were planning to vote Obama…or already had!!
I seriously thought about going to a local pub for a pint and dinner, but I needed to go home and feed Libby. Once I got there I really didn’t feel like going back out, even to do another errand I really should have done today. Instead, I heated up my lavender heating pad and watched a double feature of "Stand by Me" and "America’s Sweethearts."
"Stand by Me" is, of course a classic.
"America’s Sweethearts" I downloaded from iTunes because I felt like seeing a John Cusack movie and this is one I hadn’t seen before. Seems like it should have been better. I mean it has John, Julia Roberts, Billy Crystal (writer and producer as well) along with Catherine Zeta-Jones and Hank Azaria. A great cast, right?
I don’t know. Somehow it seems like John played almost the same guy as in "Must Love Dogs" and Julia really didn’t get to make that character as real as it could have been.
They did do a nice job of showing her 60 pounds heavier, though. It might be a good movie to keep watching the next time I want to dive face first into a plate of risotto. Just saying.
And now, it’s about 10:30 and I get a fall back hour of sleep.
Two years ago I used that extra hour making out in a parking lot with SaxMan, after watching the people in the Halloween bar crawl. Last year I was playing opera and probably going out after a show. Maybe it was with Mr. Hockey and we made out in a different parking lot.
More years than not I spend the extra hour staying up an hour later doing something or other. Only a very few times has that hour been spent making out. This year, neither one! And the best part is that I’m completely, 100% happy with my decision to spend it this way.
I’m sure the lavender scented heating pad has much to do with that.
