2008 Review; 2009 Preview

Hey kids! It’s that time again. A little evaluation of past goals and a little dreaming goal setting for the next run around the sun.
I have to say that 2008 brought some surprises for me. And while there were some pretty damn good things that happened this year, (like travel to Italy and boys that both [...]

So very tired

I found this through Crooks and Liars.
Please click through to Whiskey Fire and read what this person has to say. The most chilling observation for me was this:
Our local social services department actually hired fraud investigators at the same time that it was laying off child protective workers demonstrating conclusively where our values lie and [...]

Music Monday-chant edition

Someone sent this around my circle of church geek friends just before Christmas. We all thought it was hilarious.

The Lord is King; thou shouldst not / ever for- / get it;
*  the Lord is King, and / he can / kick your / ass.
With his right hook and his / holy / arm

Grateful - End of 2008 Edition

A brief listing of the things that made me happy or for which I am grateful this week:

Having a paycheck on Friday.
A small number of presents that the boys appreciated but didn’t need more.
Not too much drama at Grandma’s house on Wednesday.
Playing ‘Catch Phrase with Grandma and Auntie C and the boys on Wednesday.
Feeling perfectly [...]

Dark Saturday

It’s that week between Christmas and New Year’s.
I’ve said it before, but this feels like a sacred week. A week out of time. A week to examine the inner darkness.
Or watch a bunch of movies and veg out with frozen pizza.
Or both, if you’re really talented (like me)
This morning, Libby the Wonder Poodle, [...]

Boxing Day 2008

This is a random rant post, apparently.
We don’t really celebrate Boxing Day in the United States. Like most other holidays (all other holidays?) we’ve turned it into a Consumer Opportunity. Holiday closeouts, exchanges, doorbuster sales (aren’t these going to be outlawed after the tragedy last November?) are the order of the day. Some people I [...]

Quiet

This morning, I got up and made the boys our traditional Christmas morning breakfast; cinnamon rolls, bacon and eggs, and this year fresh squeezed OJ. Then the three of us opened presents - pretty low key stuff. Then I went to church and was assisting minister. By the time I was on my way home, [...]

Ready to put THIS on your Santa list?

I’m pretty sure this won’t be making my list once it’s developed. I’m too Old School. Check back in a couple of years, though. I may have changed my mind.

Music Monday - Little Boxes

I’m writing this post on Sunday evening after a frustrating day of tech support at Chez Journey. I finally got my Mac back up and running in time to actually hope to get a certain job application turned in on time. Turns out I have to fill out a set of forms to go along [...]

Welcome!

11/18/08 Note: In preparation for being away from the computer for a while, I've turned off comment moderation because I want you to be able to interact with my guest posters. Be good while I'm gone kids!

Welcome to the new (and hopefully permanent) home of This Journey. It's good to have people walking along, especially during the bumpy parts. I can be contacted at not.fainthearted at gmail dot com. Or leave a comment!
