Schedule nightmare

OK. Look, I know it isn’t actually all about me. But that’s what popped into my head when I got the phone call from X last night that his grandmother had died.

Grandma Elaine was a sweet woman. Quick with a laugh at the ridiculousness of life and generous of heart. She’s been saying she’s “ready to go home” for fifteen years. Ever since Grandpa Louie died. She was of Irish descent but married an Italian, so she cooked Italian. Several well known Italian restuarant entrepreneurs in town wanted her to partner with them when they opened their restuarants. She always declined.

This is the first funeral since my separation. It is the kids’ great-grandma so I’ll be going to support them. X is a pall bearer and will be busy. But because everyone is in town the schedule is quick. It will be awkward and uncomfortable because X’s family has basically not spoken to me since we separated 4 years ago. Even when we meet at the boys’ soccer field, a mumbled “hi” is all I get. Anger and resentment seeps off my former MIL in waves. And this is her mother.

She died Tuesday morning (I got the call Tuesday at 8:30) and DS1 has lost the pants to his suit and has been using the pants to DS2’s suit for working at the concession stand that is fundraiser work for Japanese class.

So this morning, I called X and told him that I gave DS1 some money and would he please take the boy out and buy dress pants tonight (it is His night with them) and I would take DS2’s pants to the dry cleaners. I think we should be presentable by the Friday funeral. DS2 will need to wear something else to the visitation tomorrow evening because the dry cleaner won’t have them done today. And I have “summitt” meetings until 5 tomorrow. (Not to mention synod approval panels and CRLC)

It will be a whirlwind schedule between about 1:00 this afternoon and Friday at 2. Wish me luck.

As for the continued Vacation Saga, I’m having some trouble uploading pics, but should have the next installment ready tonight. Lots of pics this time folks, and yet, there’s so much I saw that I didn’t take pictures of and wish I could share with you! The look of the streets of the neighborhoods, the little corner shop(s) where I’d stop for a cappucino or an espresso (depending on the time of day.) The rest of the hotel… the lobby, the cute keys, the foyer. Ah well. I’ll just have to go back and bring you with me?!?!
