Solstice 2009

If the sun actually came up today, I don’t think you could prove it in Minneapolis. It has been a twilight sort of grey all day, barely getting bright enough to shut off the street lights. As I said yesterday, I am VERY glad that November was so much sunnier than normal because without that I would be curled up in a ball in the corner eating my hair.

There is nothing but crazy surrounding me these days. I can’t even get up the energy to write details about Evil Corporate Job. Suffice it to say that when they said “clear, transparent communication” they must have meant “invisible” as in “non-existent.” Whatever. I’m so over it I can’t even get up the energy to rant about how stupid the whole thing is.

AP – Boss Lady – was in town today. I “met” with her for a total of 7.5 minutes. Still no “transition” plan. And now I hear she’s already on her way back home. Just as well. I didn’t want to stay until 5:00 tonight anyway.

I (finally) have an idea of what to get G’s boys for stoffing stuckers: designer beer. I have a nice body wash/hand lotion for his DIL and a toy for their dog. Should suffice.

JH is daring me to run a half-marathon with her this spring. I am dismayed that I’m even contemplating it. I’m even more dismayed that I have more energy around this lame-brained idea than I do about the audition/interview I now have scheduled for 12/29.

Clearly, my brain has been over-run with solstice monkeys. Or something.

    discerning life:

So running a half marathon…hummm. Here are my thoughts (speaking from experience both for a half and full)
    1. If you set your mind to it you can accomplish it!
    2. You must have time to train…. A LOT of time to train. In addition to running 5-6 days a week you will need to do strength training. Count on at least 1 hour a day 6 days a week for 4 months and some days as much as 3 hours. It will consume your life.
    3. You need at least 4 months to train so if it is any sooner then May forget it.
    4. It really isn’t good for your body, so really think about why you want to do it. If you just want to do it to accomplish it and say you did it – then go for it. If you think it is a good way to get your body healthier and in shape – it is not.
    5. It really is an awesome feeling when you cross that finish line…really awesome.

The woman that I talked into running the full w/me in Fargo is now running marathons all the time… here is the saddest part. She runs and trains like she is suppose to and loves it. Her 15 year old daughter said to me… “I wish my mom spent as much time with me as she does running”. Don’t miss the rest of your life just to do this cause it is LIFE CONSUMING!

That said – totally go for it if you have the time and energy to do it.

The gifts for G’s kids sound great – I hope you have an awesome Christmas week.

    HUGS

    Not Fainthearted:

Not online. Local micro-brews or imports. Basically, something I would call “real” beer (in a manner to disparage “American” beer which is designed so that you can drink a six-pack and still not taste anything. I’m talking about those mega-breweries that sponsor sporting events. Ahem.)

There’s one little Belgian White Ale made in Wisconsin called Spotted Cow. Made in small quantities and they won’t provide it to markets outside of Wisconsin. But I picked up another Belgian White Ale for the boys to compare.

Something like a Surly’s is another option.

Go to a good local liquor store and chat up the guys working there. They should be able to give you a couple of good recommendations.
