Last night was the soccer banquet. DS1 lettered on the varsity, of course.
But the real pride in parenting moment came at the team voted awards portion of the evening.
DS2 received the Junior Varsity Sportsman of the Year award. The coach said that he’d set it up for the boys as not just the person who played by the rules, but who was routinely fun to play with and had a good, positive attitude.

And the thought that went through my mind was "I’m so glad my boys have come through the last four years with a positive attitude that can be felt by their teammates. Maybe I did OK by getting a divorce. At least I didn’t ruin them."
And then (of course) I chastised myself about thinking that it was about me and my choices instead of the great young men my boys are turning into. Still, I feel pretty proud of them.

Congratulations to your boys! That’s awesome! And hey – you get some credit. I’m sure the boys would agree.

That’s wonderful. It’s hard not to take the credit. My girls have told me a million times how glad they are that I divorced their dad. It was so hard for so many years, but the divorce has made my life and my girls’ life so much better.
