This Journey

Thoughts, rants, prayers, sermons I'll never give and other stuff gathered as I make my way through this life.

Grateful #21

Things that made me happy this week and for which I am thankful:

  1. Being reminded that my “blessings” are not my materials goods.
  2. My two boys that are happy and healthy and considered positive people by their peers.
  3. Left-over BBQ from soccer banquets.
  4. 2 wildly successful forums this week.
  5. Being with other people who can (and will) discuss faith, values, issues and public life without name calling the opposition.
  6. Knowing Republicans that are going to vote for Obama.
  7. Little kids who forget to say “Trick or treat!” but hold up their plastic pumpkins anyway.
  8. Plumbers who can fix heating systems.
  9. Having enough to pay the plumber to fix the heating system.
  10. Giving myself permission to go to bed early two nights in a row.
  11. Making time and having emotional capacity to support a friend going through a break-up.
  12. Beautiful weather.
  13. Being able to exchange my bus pass for a parking permit (not because I don’t like riding the bus or think that I won’t, but it was not working with all the times I needed to split my days between two locations.)
  14. Great food and good conversation with a good friend.
  15. Feeling hydrated again, even when that means having to pee every hour, because it also means my muscles aren’t as sore anymore.
  16. Massage therapists that are “suckers for people in pain” and will make accommodations in their schedule to help those people in pain (i.e. ME.)
  17. Watching two classic movies (“Young Frankenstein” and “Stand by Me“) and one not classic but silly movie (“America’s Sweethearts“) and one controversial movie (“Religulous”) all in one weekend.
  18. Going to controversial movies with a friend who is intelligent enough to critically discuss the movie afterward.
  19. Spending time on Saturday working the phone bank and getting THANKED for calling to get out the vote. (p.s. VOTE on TUESDAY. My preference is Obama. Just saying.)
  20. NOT spending the weekend frantically reading through eHarmony postings because it’s a “free” weekend.

Author: Not Fainthearted

A paradox wrapped in an enigma playing the accordion. I'm a sinner-saint, child of God working at the cross-roads of church and world. A Deaconess called to connect people living near the center with people on the edge and to help your life sing (literally and figuratively) while doing it. People don't always get the deaconess part. Could be the swearing, the corporate job, or the wine.

  3. Hey .. I just found you on the Minnesota group at NaBloPoMo … I am also a divorced mom of 2 boys (mine are a bit younger than yours, it looks like), and I have a poodle (I think I saw somewhere that that’s what you have) and I knit, and I have weird dreams, and I am voting for That One on Tuesday …and I am trying NaBloPoMo for the first time this year.

    I’m enjoying reading your blog!
