This Journey

Thoughts, rants, prayers, sermons I'll never give and other stuff gathered as I make my way through this life.

Grateful Edition #26

A full six months of trying to remember to count my blessings. Here’s this week’s list:

  1. Crazy musician friends at church that think accordion and marimba go very nicely together, thank you!
  2. Going through the vacation mail (finally) and finding refund checks from the State of Minnesota. (woot!!!)
  3. Realizing that my car insurance premium was due last Friday and then checking and finding out that I had scheduled the payment (on time) with ePay. (whew!)
  4. Cocooning on Saturdays in the winter.
  5. Finding the invitation to the "big" holiday open house in the vacation mail after thinking I had been crossed off the list (M&N)
  6. a paycheck last Friday
  7. A Christmas "card" from the Rick Steves’ company that was their European Christmas DVD with lovely choral performances
  8. Big pot of homemade chicken soup that should last us all week
  9. Having a lovely conversation with the lady yesterday but coming around to believe that I do NOT need (nor can I afford) to hire a "matchmaker."
  10. Having children that are past the gluttony stage for Christmas.
  11. Warm and friendly conversations at the funeral and visitation…even if they were a teensy bit awkward.
  12. The several inches of precipitation that fell overnight as rain….and that it is not freezing yet, so we won’t have inches of ice under the snow that is coming.
  13. Getting to eat Christmas cookies that I didn’t have to bake.
  14. Starting and ending my day with my sunlamp, making this dark of the year less oppressive.
  15. Having missed both boot camp classes last week but really wanting to go.
  16. Seeing a few other possibilities for the next job…that would actually be a call and let me out of Corporate Job Hell.

A paradox wrapped in an enigma playing the accordion. I'm a sinner-saint, child of God working at the cross-roads of church and world. A Deaconess called to connect people living near the center with people on the edge and to help your life sing (literally and figuratively) while doing it. People don't always get the deaconess part. Could be the swearing, the corporate job, or the wine.

  1. You do have a lot to be thankful for. Those checks sound wonderful and the hibernating? That’s something I aspire to.
