This Journey

Thoughts, rants, prayers, sermons I'll never give and other stuff gathered as I make my way through this life.

Grateful – Ides of March issue

It’s been a wild portion of the journey this week. Still way too busy. Still way to stressed. Still way too little sleep. And yet, there’s still a lot to be grateful for. Here are a few of them.

  1. I have a job that pays me and let’s me pay all my bills.
  2. DS1 has gotten all but one acceptance letters and some of the financial aid packages actually look like I could afford to send him! (assuming I stay employed)
  3. I had a really good great conversation with a pastor in a small church in south Minneapolis who is looking for a full-time person to do a combination position of music-worship and a new “recovery” ministry that focuses on mental illness and chem-dep recovery directly and through advocacy/lobbying.
  4. I spent Thursday evening with G. We ate pizza at his house and watched some basketball. The most amazing thing of the evening needs it’s own number.
  5. G, knowing I was tired and stressed on Thursday, left the living room for a few minutes came back and said this: “You can tell me to forget it, or even slap me across the face I guess, but you said you liked baths and I know you’re stressed and busy. Is this bubblebath OK?” He had cleaned his tub, and drew me a bath, complete with fresh clean towels and a cozy bathrobe for afterwards. I have never had someone do that for me.
  6. G & I went to a great little kosher deli (yes! in St. Paul) on Saturday and then went to the Minnesota Jewish Theater Company’s production of “Chutzpah a go-go!” which was hilarious and fun.
  7. Working with the new associate pastor is going really really well and I think we’re making a good team. (It’s a little sad about #3 when I think about leaving this church.)
  8. Soup at my house on Sunday nights.
  9. Great meeting with the rep from the State legislature on Thursday morning about our Healthy Communities Act and Health Security Act.
  10. Fun time having coffee with some of the other “soccer moms” on Saturday. We are all set to be each other’s kitchen help for the graduation parties this spring/summer. I think I’ve decided that I’ll have DS1′s at the end of July.
  11. G wants to travel with me. He wants to go fishing on Lake Michigan. He wants to go to Holden. He’s got connections with cabins, and rental cars and wants to spend his stored up PTO with me.
  12. Even though I keep trying to stay skeptical and hesitant and maybe even a little disbelieving, I think I’m falling for this guy. And I’m grateful that my heart hasn’t frozen up and I’m still open to the risk. Even when it scares the hell out of me.
  13. I’m very happy that I haven’t gotten sick yet this year. SB’s kids and husband have all had strep throat and she has it now (cancelled choir this morning because of it) and ST’s kids have both had strep. I don’t want it and haven’t caught it yet.

Author: Not Fainthearted

A paradox wrapped in an enigma playing the accordion. I'm a sinner-saint, child of God working at the cross-roads of church and world. A Deaconess called to connect people living near the center with people on the edge and to help your life sing (literally and figuratively) while doing it. People don't always get the deaconess part. Could be the swearing, the corporate job, or the wine.

  1. Yea! Things seem to be going so well. G. is proof that there are still guys out there who aren’t terrified of commitment and will actually make an effort.

  2. One of my girlfriends has strep. I guess it really is going around now.

  3. This post just got better with each numbered entry. I’m so happy for you on so many levels.
